The Twisted Tales was created by us — professional tour guides Sophie and Jez. We research the history, write the stories and perform the majority of the tours ourselves. Basically, when it goes right, it’s definitely down to us!

After joining forces for countless murder mysteries and guided tours, we gained a shared interest in immersive storytelling and delightfully dark tales. We noticed that tours tended to fall into two camps: either very educational (lots of facts and very serious faces) or wildly fictional (ghosts galore with optional historical accuracy).We wanted something better — history that’s factual, dramatic, and genuinely fun, without the need for imaginary ghosts and made-up stories.

This led us to The Twisted Tales: immersive, story-packed experiences where history takes centre stage, the drama is real, the humour is sharp, and every grisly detail is backed by proper research. No ghosts. No nonsense. Just true, twisted tales — told by people who love what they do.
Hello, and welcome!
I’m Sophie — tour guide, actress, history enthusiast, and professional storyteller with a flair for the dramatic! I’ve spent the past fourteen years performing, most recently at Warwick Castle, where I fell for Warwickshire’s rich and often surprising history. ​
​After training at the Sylvia Young Theatre School and the National Youth Theatre I took a 'twist' with a degree in Life Sciences, leading to a successful career in Health Science and lecturing. I once anaesthetised people for a living but rest assured, no one is put to sleep on the tour!

After taking time out to raise my two wonderful daughters, I reignited my love of performing and returned to Warwick Castle, leading immersive historical tours for schools and the general public. Alongside freelance work in murder mysteries and local tour guiding, I realised it was finally time to bring everything together — history, performance, humour, and a slight twist on the ordinary!

I can’t wait to welcome you on one of our tours, where the history is real, the stories are twisted, and our guests are left with memories for life.

Hello!
I'm Jez - full time Actor, Writer and Presenter. Along with many film credits and professional stage work (including: Macbeth in Macbeth, Polonious/Gravedigger in Hamlet, Mozart in Amadeus, Max in The Producers). Most recently I have written and performed a very successful one-man show at the Edinburgh Fringe, awarded with a Best Comedy Newcomer nomination. Having received high praise for my previous Shakespeare roles, (“Speeches were delivered with such power.”, “A riveting and simply stunning performance.”) I am delighted to bring my experience to The Twisted Tales of Stratford-Upon-Avon.

History has always been a passion of mine, and I’ve spent many years bringing it to life — including time at Warwick Castle. I love combining theatrical flair, humour, and historical insight to make the past feel both accessible and entertaining.

Whether I’m on stage or leading a tour, I believe that history should never be dull. My aim is simple: you’ll leave having learned something new, laughed a little too much, and maybe even seen the past in a way you never expected.

Hello!
I'm Josh! I’m an actor, musician and your soon-to-be favourite tour guide!
With a professional background in acting and performance, I love to immerse myself in different characters and bring them to life! I’ve been lucky enough to have performed in five professional theatre productions, and currently work on the acting team at Warwick Castle.
Music has always been at the centre of my life, and the one thing I give myself to completely! I release music under the my stage name ‘Deacon Lux’. I’m currently working on my first album, which means that when I’m not guiding tours, I’m most likely in the studio obsessing over a vocal take! My holy trinity? Madonna, Britney Spears and Lady Gaga!
I’ve been fortunate enough to travel to some phenomenal places in my life! In 2022 I moved to Massachusetts in the US to work on a summer camp with children age 4-15. This experience really birthed my love for travel, so in 2023 I went on a six-month backpacking trip across South East Asia, stopping in a total of nine countries! A truly life-changing experience! I have spent the last two years living in Melbourne, where I continued to perform, write and collect stories (The tour would last much longer than 90 minutes If I told you all of those). I’m endlessly curious about people and their stories!
